Our story
How we got our start?
Wakefield Peanut Company began more than 150 years ago when the first commercial peanut crop in the United States was grown a few miles west of our location. For over 40 years, our family-owned business in Wakefield, Virginia, has produced some of the finest peanuts and animal shelters available.
What makes our product unique?
All of our animal shelters are hand-crafted using sustainably-grown Eastern White Pine Wood. Eastern White Pine is an ideal material for our houses & feeders because it provides superior insulation during the summer and winter months while remaining light in weight and easy to hang.

What Types of Birds Use a Nesting Perch?
Song Sparrows
Song Sparrows are streaky and brown with thick streaks on their white underbelly. Their heads are an attractive mix of warm red-brown and slaty gray, though these shades, as well as the amount of streaking, can vary extensively across North America.
Song Sparrow flights are short and fluttering, with a characteristic downward pumping of the tail. Male Song Sparrows sing from exposed perches such as small trees and nesting perches.
Robins
American Robins are typically gray-brown in color and have warm orange underparts with dark heads. Females have paler heads that contrast less with the gray back.
Robins are fairly large songbirds and have a large, round body with long legs and a fairly long tail. Robins make a good reference point for comparing the size and shape of other birds.
Barn Swallows
Barn Swallows are very pretty birds that typically have a steely blue back that stretches to its wings and tail, and a tawny undercarriage. Their blue crown and faces contrast with their cinnamon-colored forehead and throat, and the white spots under their tails can be difficult to see except in flight.
Barn follows are commonly found in open habitats such as fields, parks, and roadway edges, to marshes, meadows, ponds and coastal waters. Their nests are often easy to spot under the eaves or inside of sheds, barns, bridges and other structures.
Where to Hang Your Nesting Perch
This simple perch is commonly placed under the eaves, inside a garage or barn, or on the side of a building. It offers protection from the elements and requires no maintenance. Installation is designed to be easy; simply mount the nesting perch to a tree or building by putting two screws through the pre-drilled holes in the back panel. Each Wakefield Bird House is constructed to last and includes a brochure that describes the species, placement, and maintenance of the birdhouse.
